Everyone has that one room (or several) in their home that needs a little bit more TLC than others. It's rare to find a home that has everything you want and that suits all your needs. Most of us have a few complaints about our space whether it be lack of closet space, small bathrooms, not enough storage, awkward layout, outdated decor, and the list goes on... However we're quite happy there and we want to make it an inviting space filled with character and style that represents us. While it's impossible to change a floor plan or remodel a bathroom without spending any money; there are small changes you can make to make that space exciting and enjoyable again for you and your family.

Here are some easy steps to help you achieve the space you want for very little to no money:

1. Begin with a blank space. Yes, it means removing all your accessories that isn't furniture, rugs, or drapes. By removing all that clutter, you will be able to visualize what the space needs with fresh eyes. Place those objects in the hall or another room until later.

2. Now furniture placement! Although it may scare you to move your furniture around to try different layouts; sometimes it's all a space needs to make it look new again. OK, maybe your room doesn't allow you to move your big pieces but you can still try with your smaller pieces. And even if you go back to your old configuration at the end, at least it was a good excuse to vacuum and clean underneath those big furniture pieces(:

3. Organizing. You may have too many items you've collected over the years that distract the space from showcasing the items you really love and enjoy. Or some items are causing clutter that needs organizing or putting away. An easy example is stacks of magazine that are now dust collectors more than anything that can be recycled. Kid's toys are another great example that can be organized and stored in baskets to tidy up the space (the toys that your kids don't use anymore can be donated to kids in need).

4. Try replacing some items & accessories with new objects or swap the places of some objects in the room to get a different look and feel. You can also bring in and try different objects from other rooms in your house that you think you'd like to see in that particular room. If you have a bookcase, you can use it to rearrange your books, accessories, and photos in a way where they all serve a purpose there other than just being piled up and gathered in one area. You can use some of your books as a base for a vase, succulents, candles, and such. The idea is to create a visually appealing display that showcases your style, collected memoirs, and character. Below are some ideas for styling shelves & bookcases.

5. Add green to your space. I don't mean green paint(: Houseplants do an amazing job bringing life into a room. If you're like me and can't really take care of plants other than orchids, then realistic looking artificial plants like succulents, etc should be your go-to pieces. For ideas check out the images below.

6. Texture is key. Mixing up patterns and textures in a space does wonders. A nice throw, woven baskets, textured pillows mixed with plain ones, wood & metals.

7. Now let's get going & enjoy your semi-new space!
